The Green Smoothie Bar names Friends With Hearts its smoothie of the month. The ingredients will blow your heart away.

Our friends at the Green Smoothie Bar are showing their support this month by featuring the Friends With Heart Smoothie as their featured drink for November. They wanted to do their part by building awareness with their communities on James St. North and Upper James. They have created a custom smoothie that is actually good for your heart. Read on to check out the key ingredients in the Friends with Hearts smoothie and why it is so good for you:

Beets – Their bright colour indicates the very high presence of antioxidants, and because we use the beet raw including the skin, you are getting the very highest amount of phytonutrients (plant nutrients, which are the most nutrient dense).

Apples – Contain phytonutrients which act as antioxidants against LDL cholesterol – the “bad” cholesterol in your bloodstream that is known to cause heart disease.

Pineapple – Contains the enzyme bromelain, which has amazing anti-inflammatory properties (great for arthritis and colitis and other inflammatory conditions), but also reduces blood clotting.

Cranberries – Amazing berries packed with compounds which block bacteria from attaching to our digestive system (that’s why they’re great for curing UTI’s) and high amounts of anti-inflammatory and antioxidants which benefit the entire circulatory system.

Almonds – These nuts are high in the heart-healthy omega-3 fat, like most nuts. This is the fat that our body requires to keep a health natural blood cholesterol balance.

Chia seeds – Chia seeds have been shown to improve blood pressure in diabetics, and may also increase healthy cholesterol while lowering total, LDL, and triglyceride cholesterol. They’re also a great source of protein without having to ingest the saturated fat associated with animal protein.

Kale – Named the 2013 Superfood, kale is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. It has heart-healthy antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, folate, potassium, and vitamin E. It’s also rich in lutein, which protects against early atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). It’s like teflon for your veins!

Spinach – Very similar to kale which its rich stores of lutein, folate, potassium and fiber. It’s mild-tasting leaves are a daily must!

Blended 100% all Natural and Organic ingredients, this is one delicious and good for you drink. Do your heart and the Friends With Hearts Community a favour and try one this month.

For only $7.25 for a small or $8.85 for a large, visit one of their two locations at 236 James St. North or 1662 Upper James.
